Katherine H. Meehan Presents at Annual PA School Leadership Conference

MEDIA, Pa. (October 2016) – Katherine H. Meehan, a school law and government services attorney with Delaware County full-service law firm Raffaele Puppio, recently presented as part of the annual PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference.

The School Leadership Conference is an annual event hosted by the Pennsylvania School Board Association (PSBA) and the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators (PASA). This year’s conference was hosted Oct. 13 to Oct. 15 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Meehan joined lawyers from across the state to present during the School Law Workshop.

Focusing on the process of closing a school building, Meehan’s presentation provided insight into the many options a school district has after the sale of a building. She cited auction sales and private sales, but also mentioned the building being converted for municipal use, restored by a historical society, or transferred to a non-profit. She used relevant case law to explain the process, as well as examples from the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh school districts. She also explained factors to consider when relocating students after a building is closed.

This is Meehan’s second time presenting at the conference, which brings together hundreds of educators and school leaders from across Pennsylvania for an inspiring professional development event. In 2015, she presented a program called “Setting Appropriate Boundaries with Students.”

Meehan has been an associate with Raffaele Puppio since 2006. Her legal practice is focused primarily on education law. She works closely with education, government, municipal, commercial and private clients on various matters, including employment, contract, Right to Know, Sunshine Act, and policy matters. She also has experience in civil litigation, including personal injury and discrimination matters.

Prior to joining Raffaele Puppio, Meehan served as a law clerk for the late Honorable Joseph F. Battle, Jr. from 1997 to 2001. She received a bachelor’s degree in politics with a minor in sociology from Ithaca College and earned her law degree from Villanova University School of Law.
